Review: Stay by Tia Louise

Stay
by
Tia Louise

Synopsis: Stephen Hastings is a control freak.
He's arrogant. He's smart as a whip and sexy AF.
He has too much money. He's bossy, and he's usually right.
All I saw were his clear blue eyes, tight butt, and ripped torso.
I gladly handed him my V-card that night, ten years ago.
I was so stupid. I swore I'd never be that stupid again...

Emmy Barton works for a dry cleaner?
Yes, that Emmy Barton--long, blonde hair, bright blue eyes, pretty smile...
Sexy little body. Smart mough.
She was the only girl who interested me, but I was leaving to be an officer in the Navy.

Now I'm home, running my business. My life is perfectly ordered until I bump into her,
divorced and struggling to make ends meet.
I hate seeing her like this. I hate that she married Burt "The Dick" Dickerson. What an a--hole.

She says she hates me, but when we fight it's all heat and lust.
I won't leave her this way.
She will let me help her and her son. She will stay...
It's a thin line between love and hate, and this line is on fire.

(Stay is a stand-alone enemies-to-lovers, second-chance, marriage of convenience romance. No cheating. No Cliffhangers.)

Review: This is an incredible read from Tia Louise. I couldn't put it down, the story is addicting to say the least. Emmy and Stephen's story is so full of emotion it had me laughing and crying. Emmy is such a strong, independent woman. Stephen is a force to be reckoned with. Together they are the perfect couple.

Review: Called to Kill by A.M. Surtees

Called to Kill
by
A.M. Surtees

Synopsis: To the world she was simply a lady of the night but to them she was so much more. After fleeing from an abusive childhood, Tamikah found home on the streets until the day Jackson Craig gave her a purpose: To bring just to the unjust.

But when the unjust threatens her home she will have to turn every stone, rattle every cage and learn to trust an unexpected love interest in order to stop the threat before it kills her. Join the gang in Called to Kill, book one in a nail biting trilogy that will leave you lusting after a book four.

Review: Surtees does a great job drawing you in with the story in this novel. It's truly a page turner. I finished it in one sitting. The characters are great, the story is great, but the ending threw me for a look! I did not see that one coming in the slightest.

Overall the novel was fa great read, but it could have used a little more editing before being published. There are many areas in the novel where the author switches tenses multiple times with a paragraph. With a little more editing this could easily be a 5 star read.

Review: The Savior by JR Ward

The Savior

Black Dagger Brotherhood, #17

by

JR Ward

Synopsis: In the venerable history of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, only one male has ever been expelled—but Murhder’s insanity gave the Brothers no choice. Haunted by visions of a female he could not save, he nonetheless returns to Caldwell on a mission to right the wrong that ruined him. However, he is not prepared for what he must face in his quest for redemption.

Dr. Sarah Watkins, researcher at a biomedical firm, is struggling with the loss of her fellow scientist fiancé. When the FBI starts asking about his death, she questions what really happened and soon learns the terrible truth: Her firm is conducting inhumane experiments in secret and the man she thought she knew and loved was involved in the torture.

As Murhder and Sarah’s destinies become irrevocably entwined, desire ignites between them. But can they forge a future that spans the divide separating the two species? And as a new foe emerges in the war against the vampires, will Murhder return to his Brothers... or resume his lonely existence forevermore?

Review: Considering the fact that this is the 17th book in the series there isn't much I can tell you without spoiling parts of the book. I like to steer clear of spoilers whenever I can and I will do my best here.

This installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood focuses on Murhder, Sarah, John Matthew, and Xhex. I have been anxiously waiting for Murhder's book since we were given a sneak peek of him in The Thief. Ward definitely did NOT disappoint with this story.

Murhder is the only Male to ever be banished from the Brotherhood. It was presumed that he was certifiable.  As the story unfolds we find that he is not as deranged as he was believed to be.

I enjoyed every page of this book. Murhder and Sarah made for a great read with some very steamy scenes.

I can't wait to get lost in The Sinner upon it's release next year.

Release Day Blitz A Summer with Snow by Hallie Swanson

Title: A Summer with Snow
Author: Hallie Swanson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours
Blurb:
It was the summer of 2005, probably the most memorable summer of my life. I was twelve years old, six weeks we spent together, forty two days, in that time our friendship grew, and then without warning he upped and left. I always hoped he’d come back to us, I couldn’t let go of his memory. He became my first, my only teenage crush. Every day he was in my mind, and every night he was in my dreams. Ten years on this man is still my secret obsession no matter how many men I’ve met and dated, nobody ever measured up. Even today, all I can think about is the summer of 2005, the summer I spent with Snow. .... But although Darcy thought she knew all there was to know about Snow, she couldn't have been more wrong.

one
“Darcy, lift your arms above your head,” he says, standing directly before me.
His tanned physique is to die for. Steam wafts up from his broad chest. There’s a slight gap between us, yet he feels so warm. Standing here like this is everything I’ve ever pictured in my dreams; every sensation, every ounce of feeling rushes through the core of my body. The tips of his fingers take the edge of my T-shirt, and holding onto the cotton material they slowly glide up past my waist, past my breasts, and with my arms raised, past my fingers. I glance down as he drops my top onto the bed. Encased by his arms, he unclips the fastenings of my bra. I sense his chest has cooled as he leans his bare flesh against my breasts. I lower my eyes, expecting him to lift me onto the bed, and I’ve no desire to fight him. He rests his cheek against mine, and I flinch as his stubble rubs against my face. His lips part as they press against my ear, and I tilt my head ever so slightly so that they can move down to my neck.
“You shower, Darcy; I left the water running.”
His fingers, his lips slip away and he walks to the far side of the bed, still rubbing at his hair. Is he acting like the perfect gentleman or, after the way I’ve acted, is he just too scared to make the first move? As I look over his body the thought of him inside me is making me wet. I blush, feeling embarrassed at my own thoughts. What’s happening to you, Darcy?
Filled with frustration, I saunter into a bathroom of wall-to-wall mirrors. I step out of my trousers and my black lace panties, and from the cold tiled floor into the shower. Blinded by steam, I lean my head back against the striking white wall tiles. I blink, screwing up my eyes as they are hit by jets of hot water. Taking the lathered soap from its porcelain dish, I rub it between my palms, touching my face, my arms. I begin circling my hands over my skin, trying to wash my frustration away; on reaching my breasts I circle my nipples … they are hard against my fingers. Still covered in soap and water, my hands dip down to my waist and on between my legs; slowly I begin to rub myself. I take his advice and pretend that’s it’s not me here, but someone else. Losing myself in my head, I feel I’m also losing my inhibitions.
“Snow!” I cry out. “Can you come here?”
Two  “I was about to put my truncheon in your hand, but thought you’d prefer my cock.”
My instinct tells me that at the first chance I get I should turn round and punch him in the face, yet having him so God damn near I’m feeling myself starting to relax; he’s starting to turn me on.
“We’ve made love…” He nibbles my neck. “We’ve fucked, but it gets much more exciting from here on, so now for the role play.”
“Snow…”
I try to butt in, but I gasp back my words as he slips my hand down the front of his trousers. I can feel his every inch and can feel how much he wants me.
“Look, Darc, if you’re not into this kind of thing, we can always drive back to the hotel, or meet up with Chase and Rayne.”
I attempt to shake my head against the cold metal bonnet. I feel his lips move my hair from my face as he whispers into my ear.
“I thought if I spiced things up a bit, this relationship could go all the way. I don’t want you looking elsewhere now, do I?” he says, grazing my lobe with his teeth.
His hand prise its way between my thighs and the bonnet, and he ruches up my long black dress until it’s level with my undies. He slips his fingers inside my lace panties and I open up slightly more as he feels his way between my folds. His fingers hover, then massage my sex. Pleasurable groans slip from between my lips as he circles his fingers around my hardening bud. I tighten my grasp around the warm skin of his penis, slowly moving my hand up and down his shaft.
“Okay, Snow, I’ll play your game,” I utter.
As my hand moves faster, I squeeze his cock just a little too hard and he flinches.
“Though maybe not so rough.”
He jerks it out of my hand, slides his arm under my stomach and turns me over onto my back. I gaze up into darkness and the rugged outline of his face.
“Okay, now do as I’ve asked and get in the fucking car.”
Straightening my dress, I lift my legs, bend slightly and ease myself onto the back seat. A flash of metal, a click and my wrists are held tight in handcuffs.
“Don’t you think I’ll need my hands?” I smirk as he buries a small metal key in his trouser pockets.
“What you’re going to be doing to me, you won’t be needing your hands.”
“Snow…”
“Enough!” he yells. “You’ve been a very naughty girl, and you’re in big trouble.”
I can’t help but giggle at how serious he’s being. He grabs my knees, pulling me round to face him.
“Now lie back,” he demands, “and shut that dirty mouth of yours.”
He smiles, and the small light in the car enhances the whiteness of his teeth. He leans into me, searching for my lips. I feel their softness, and the stroke of his finger as it runs down my cheek.
“Darcy, do you trust me?” he murmurs, and I nod.
“How do you fancy trying something you haven’t tried before?”
I see a small tube that he pulls from his pocket. I don’t answer his question, but lean back and close my eyes.
three
I can’t help thinking that in her own way she’s as fucked up as me, and what she said was true; guess some people really do wear their scars better than others. I lean forward on the bed, pulling her towards me by the waistband of her shorts.
“No, Snow, get off me.”
She takes a step forwards, but I pull her back. She spins round, hitting out at my face; grabbing her above the elbows I pull her into my chest, encasing her in my arms.
“Get off me!” she yells.
“It’s okay, Darc, it’s okay.”
The harder she fights, the tighter my hold on her becomes. After only moments I feel her tenseness dissolve and her yells become sobs. I reach up, softly stroking my hand down the back of her hair in the same way I remember my mother doing to me as a boy when I was upset… But that’s Snow’s story and locked away. There are so many facets to my life, ones I’m not prepared to share.
Still holding her against me, we’re almost as one as I lower us back onto the bed. This is foreign territory I enter, for never in my life have I held a woman the way I’m holding Darcy now. I have this overriding feeling that takes over my head, telling me I want to protect her, keep her safe. Suddenly, my heart hurts, for it is something Snow was unable to do for Summer. But this isn’t a sisterly love I feel for Darcy; I can’t place what I feel. I glance down onto her soft forehead, my eyes following the bridge of her nose, and it suddenly dawns on me that I can’t imagine my life without her in it; yet what chance do two people as broken and as lost as we are really have?
It’s strange how moments can turn into hours without you realising, and it’s amazing how long our arms stayed wrapped around one another without either of us wanting to pull away. I look down at her as she lifts her head from my chest, and we hold each other in a long drawn-out stare. I smile at the multicoloured paint on her face. Seeing a half-empty glass on the table beside us, I stretch my arm towards it and dip my finger into the water. I lift myself from her, allowing her head to fall lightly onto the pillow behind. I draw my wet fingers down from her forehead, smudging the shades as I try to rub the paint away. But as I wipe away her painted mask, I see a woman beneath, a beautiful woman whose eyes have settled on me… At the end of the day she’s still a woman, and every woman I have every loved, who has ever meant anything to me, has just caused me pain. Faces from my past flash into my head… Is it only a matter of time before I kiss Darcy goodbye and she becomes no more than a memory? Then, like so many times before, I will forget her, pick myself up and start my life over.
I lean my arm past her and turn off the light, then once more hold her in my arms.

Review: In the Blood by R.L.Martinez

in the blood

I was given an eARC of this book for an HONEST review.

In the Blood

R.L. Martinez

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started reading this book. I didn't have much information about the book and had never even seen the cover!
It took me about 2 days to finish this one, I could barely tear my eyes from it long enough  to sleep. The story is so enthralling. I loved every minute of it. I was constantly anxious to find out what would happen next. I finished this book hungry for more. I hope that the words "The End" are NOT an indication that there won't be another installment.
Ms. Martinez did an excellent job with the characters in this novel.
While the two main characters are identical twins, they are in truth  more different than they are alike. Ottilde Dominax is a soldier through and through while her sister Oriabel is a lady to the bones. The girls show their dedication to one another throughout the novel. They protect each other no matter the distance or trials in their way.
I could sense throughout the novel that Mrs. Hugo had an ulterior motive but I was absolutely shocked when I found out what those motives actually were. I never saw it coming.
The scenes in the novel were described beautifully. It was very easy to see, in my mind, what the characters saw.
I did find some small errors in the novel, but seeing as this was an Advanced Readers Copy, I'm sure they will be fixed before publication. They were minor errors that did not affect the story drastically. They were not bad/frequent enough to make me want to throw my kindle across the room.

Review: Snakeroot (Nightshade Legacy #1) by Andrea Cremer

Snakeroot

Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer
Nightshade Legacy Book 1

Snakeroot pretty much picks up where Bloodrose left off, only it's set in multiple POVs. I've never really liked books that switch POVs every chapter but I really wanted to see where this story went so I toughed it out.
The story was actually good. It is mostly in Adne's POV. I do wonder if it will just end up repeating what happened in the Nightshade Trilogy. That's where it seems to be going only with a more romantic twist.
I was disappointed in the way this one ends considering it was released 2 years ago and we still don't have book 2 BUT the author says that book 2 is being delayed for a reason so lets just hope that it's a good one!
I will most definitely be buying/reading book 2 when it is available.

Review: Nightshade Trilogy by Andrea Cremer

Nightshade Trilogy

Nightshade Trilogy by Andrea Cremer
Nightshade, Wolfsbane, and Bloodrose

I started this trilogy not really knowing what to expect. These books were released a few years ago and I've heard both good and bad things about them.
I really enjoyed the trilogy. I am reviewing them all together because it's hard to remember exactly where each book ended and the next began. The author did an excellent job of starting back up where she left of in the previous book.
The books are very well written and the characters are defined properly. I actually felt like I knew  them. I wanted to laugh, cry, and fight along side them.
That being said, the ending of Bloodrose was NOT what I expected at all. I was totally caught off guard by some of the things that happened in the last few chapters.
Overall, I am happy with the trilogy. I have bought a copy of every book to add to my ever growing library. (I only wish they were signed!)

Review: Nightshade Prequels by Andrea Cremer

Nightshade Prequels.jpg
 Nightshade Prequels by Andrea Cremer
Rift and Rise

Since these books were published as prequels I read these first. I will say that you don't necessarily have to. These give you further insight into how things began but the trilogy can be read and understood without reading these first.
I absolutely loved every minute of Ember's story. These books are very well written and the characters feel so real. The only negative thing I can say about these is that there isn't a third book! I would really love to have more of Ember and Barrow's story.
Overall, I was not disappointed with these books at all.

Review: House of Shame

House of Shame

by: Caddy Rowland

Publication Date: October 2, 2014

There Was a House Saga book 4 (Conclusion)

Synopsis:  Phoenix has been plotting to devastate her captor and destroy his brothel of under-aged sex-trafficking victims ever since arriving at RĂŞve. But the beating he recently gave her over some bank accounts fans the flames of hatred into a firestorm. Now, to her delight, plans to accomplish exactly what she’s been hoping for are in place—and the results will be brutal. Even better, every depraved man using them for sex will be revealed for what they are to their family, friends, and business associates.

Phoenix, Jamie, and the other captives know the plans must play out flawlessly. Any unforeseen glitches will likely mean not only an end to escape, but of their very lives. However, perfection seldom exists. Something is bound to go wrong.

And when it does, Jamie will be left wondering if he’s just signed all their death warrants.

**Content Warning: This drama contains adult themes and scenes that deal with a difficult topic.

Review: When I started reading the There Was a House Saga, I knew I was in for a treat as Caddy Rowland is a wonderful writer and never disappoints. I knew to expect something that would pull at my heart and bring out every emotion within me. Caddy never ceases to amaze me with her work.

These books are amazing. The story Caddy portrayed is a very difficult one. If you have a heart at all the characters will bring tears to your eyes many times during the story.

I love how Caddy ended the Saga. I only wish that the same happy ending could be guaranteed for those that have to face the same fate in reality.

House of Trickery

By Caddy Rowland

Publication Date: April 28, 2014

There Was a House saga Book 3

Synopsis: Book 3 of There Was a House saga, a continuing psychological thriller about revenge and redemption.

Jamie has a secret. A secret so dangerous he hasn't even told Phoenix. What’s the point? Without a sure escape, any retaliation is suicide—and he wants far more than retaliation.

He wants total destruction.

He wants every business associate, friend, and family member to know the dirty secrets of the men who cavalierly use him and his friends, all victims of sex trafficking. Those men are monsters, and he will make sure their brutal crimes are exposed to the world.

And so Jamie painstakingly polishes his devastating plan. He has the time and talent to pull it off. They’re so close! He can almost taste the blood of revenge...but any chance of safe escape continues to elude them all.

There has to be a way out of this hellish nightmare, a final piece in this puzzle of survival. That piece needs to fall into place soon. Hope is fading fast.

**Content Warning: This drama contains adult themes and scenes that deal with a difficult topic.

Review: This book is no different than the first 2 in the saga. It will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. By the time you have finished the first 2 you will have already developed a thorough hatred for Antoine Chavelier but by the time you finish this one that hatred will have doubled. I can not wait to read the fourth installment and find out just how badly Phoenix and Jamie destroy him and his most valued clients!

Review: House of Pleasure and House of Pain by Caddy Rowland

I know, I know. It's been a LONG while since you've seen any reviews from me. I truly apologize for that. I have had A LOT going on.
  • I am now 22 weeks pregnant and expecting a baby GIRL!
  • My son's football team won their school CHAMPIONSHIP with a perfect season! Woohoo!
  • The team then went on to play in the county IRON BOWL and won 1st place continuing their perfect season. For the year they have added not one but TWO trophies to the school display case as well as a $500 check to their youth league's bank account!
  • My daughter's cheer team won FIRST place in their cheer competition as well!
I'd say we had a pretty awesome season!

And now for the books!
House of Pleasure (There was a House 1)

by Caddy Rowland

Publication Date: March 18, 2014

Synopsis: Book 1 of There Was a House saga, a continuing psychological thriller about revenge and redemption.

Fueled by rage and disgust, Phoenix runs away from home. The situation there had become unbearable. In fact, things couldn't get any worse.

But they do. Betrayed in New York by a boy who she thought was a new friend, she finds herself taken prisoner by a low-class pimp. Then, when she thinks she's on her way to her first seedy trick, Phoenix winds up locked in a limo with no way out. She wakes up in an illegal brothel in New Orleans. Phoenix vows she will find a way to destroy Antoine, the owner of the brothel. Instead of being Antoine's prostitute, she'll become his lover, his confidante, and pretty soon, his manager. And then, when he least suspects it, she'll bring the entire house down.

She better be damn good.

Review:  As a dedicated fan and blogger I have read ALL of Caddy's books. I absolutely love them all to date. This one was a lot different than what I am used to from Caddy, but it's definitely just as good as her previous books.

The story is, as always, very well written and Caddy's writing draws you in from the very beginning. Caddy is a wonderful author and this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a great page turner!

House of Pain (There Was a House 2)

by Caddy Rowland

Publication Date: March 18, 2014

Synopsis: Book 2 of There Was a House saga, a continuing psychological thriller about revenge and redemption.

The need for revenge boils in Phoenix's veins. It's been almost two years since Antoine Chevalier abducted her, with the intent of prostituting her at RĂŞve, his illegal brothel in New Orleans. At least she has convinced him of her love and loyalty, becoming his lover and house manager instead of one of the whores. Still, she won't rest until Antoine, his house, and his sickest customers are destroyed.

Jamie has his own issues to worry about. Dumped off and abandoned at RĂŞve by his homophobic father, he must allow himself to be prostituted or be sold off to be used on the streets of a city like New York, where he'd end up whoring anyway. If he and Phoenix can convince Antoine there's money to be made by having him available, Jamie will do everything in his power to stay where it's much safer. He'll make damn sure to play the role of flaming queen to the hilt. With his delicate Peter Pan looks, who would expect much else? There's no need to show the real person behind the façade—not until he knows for sure how deeply he can trust Phoenix.

Jamie is the wildcard. He'll be integral in taking Antoine down, Phoenix is sure of it; and who would suspect such a sweet looking pretty boy?

If only opportunity would present itself.

**Content Warning: This drama contains adult themes and scenes that deal with a difficult topic.

Review: OMG! I a am totally speechless! Caddy is a magician with words and she has absolutely proven that time and time again. This story is incredible. Caddy is the ultimate story writer. She knows just how to keep you turning the pages. I will definitely be reading the rest of this saga.
