He’s looking down at me, making me feel small at five feet two inches. He has to be at least six feet tall. Broad shoulders. His suit today is gunmetal grey with blue or black pin striping—I can’t tell which. His shirt is a beautiful lavender color with a darker purple tie. 
"How do you know I'm not an addict?" I ask, softly. 
He smiles at me, warm, genuine. "Because, you've come to return the money I left you last night as a tip." My jaw falls open. 
"How"—I swallow hard—"did you know?"
His smile fades a little. "Because, why else would you come down here?"
I close my mouth and look down at the floor. His ability to read me is really scary. 
"Since you haven't eaten since last night, I'm going to take you to lunch."
I feel my face flush bright red, both in anger and complete irritation. "That is not why I'm here. I've survived for my entire life fending for myself, I don't need some rich hot shot business mogul buying me food." I reach into the pocket of my bag and pull the folded up paper from it. I thrust it towards him. He refuses to take it. Tears of frustration trickle down my cheeks. "Damn it Mikah, take it." I push it at him again and again he refuses. "I'm not a damn charity case. I don't need your money or your food." 
The bell chimes. We’ve finally reached the skyway. As soon as the doors open, I drop the folded up paper with his money in it and bolt from the elevator, turning left, hoping and praying I can get away. 
"Vivienne, stop." I hear him say behind me. I keep going, walking quickly but not running. Yet. I'm trying hard to not make a scene.
But he doesn’t seem to care about that. He catches me quickly, spins me around. I grab hold of his arm to catch my balance so I don't go sprawling onto the floor.

My Thoughts:
OK. So at first I was an emotional mess. Mia Asher portrays the hurt of a mother who has had a miscarriage perfectly. I was sympathetic to Cathy because of her losses. The whole story is completely emotionally draining but absolutely worth the read. 

By the time I finished the book my heart was broken for Ben, Cathy, and Arsen all for their own reasons. The emotions that the three of them forced me to feel throughout the book took me for a loop. There must have been 50 of them! 

My feelings for Cathy are controversial. One minute I was crying for her and the the next I hated the way she acted. 

Ben is portrayed as the perfect husband. He says all the right things and he does all the right things. Why would she mess that up? 

Arsen is HOT and arrogant. He's a spoiled rich brat that is accustomed to getting everything he wants. He doesn't seem to care about Cathy or her feelings, just the good time that he can have with her. Her marriage be damned.  

Overall the book is great! I would recommend it to anyone who really loves to read!

Opening my legs with his hands, he enters me slowly, taking his time, making the moment last. When he’s all the way in, he pauses as we stare at each other, both of us breathing heavily. Slowly, he brings a hand to caress my naked shoulder. “I’ve wanted to do this since the moment I kissed you on the street.”

“Have sex with me?” I ask.

“No.” He bites my lower lip. “Make you mine.”

This time he makes love to me. There is no roughness in his treatment of my body, and I don’t miss it. This feels as if he is telling me with his body what he cannot voice yet. This feels like we are imprinting each other to our bodies and to our hearts. Moaning, I grab the back of his neck and pull him down for a kiss, getting lost in the moment.

Review:
I know absolutely nothing about being a musician. I am a writer, blogger, and mother. That's it. Music has never been my strong point and I'm ok with that. In this novel Williams takes us on a journey. The very exciting and passionate journey of a young Hawaiian singer who studies Opera  at the famous Mozarteum in Salzburg. The novel is very unique in it's own colorful ways. The characters are  very easy to follow and they are properly developed. The characters are also easy to become emotionally attached to as well. The plot is very well played out. The young woman has a complicated love affair while trying to fulfill her dreams. 

About the Author:

Originally from Hawaii and living back home in the islands, I once spent 10 years in Europe as an opera singer. I then studied creative writing in San Francisco at the UC Berkeley extension, and received scholarships to Breadloaf and Squaw Valley. My memoir deals with Hawaiian culture. In 2013 my debut novel won a Hawaii Award for Excellence. This book answers the questions: How does a singer get from Hawaii to Salzburg in the late 1960s? What happens to her in the glamorous, high-stakes world of classical music? How much does the Nazi past matter to artists from outside Europe?
My next novel is under submission and I'm at work on a third book. When not writing I'm part of the Hawaiian cultural and environmental community.
