Charlaine Harris Interview and Giveaway!

First of all I would like to say, Thank you to the incredibly talented Charlaine Harris for taking time out of her hectic schedule to answer a few questions for me! I was THRILLED when I got the email back saying that she agreed to do this for me! I literally squealed! I absolutely LOVE the Sookie Stackhouse Series  as well as the well known TV show True Blood that is based on these novels.

I hope you all enjoy the interview! Don't forget to enter the giveaway as well!

How does it feel to be the amazing author that you have become?
*Hmm. Well, I’m the same writer I’ve always been. I hope I get a little better with every book; that’s my goal. I think the “amazing” factor has more to do with reader perception than with some change I underwent.
What made you want to be an author?
*I’d always wanted to be a writer, so I’m very fortunate to have been able to fulfill my dream. I love books, so the concept of being one of those wonderful people who actually wrote them . . . wow.
When you wrote your first book, were you nervous about turning it in to a publisher?
*Yes, of course I was. Writers are simultaneously convinced they’re unworthy and sure they have something to say. So there’s always a dash of certainty mixed in with a lot of fear.
Were the Sookie Stackhouse novels turned down at all before they were published?
*More than any other books I’d ever written. “Dead Until Dark” was turned down over and over.

What inspired you to write the Sookie Stackhouse Series?
*I was ready to write something really different from the conventional mysteries I’d always produced. I thought it might be fun to write about the struggles of a woman who was dating a vampire. Everything evolved around that.
Where did you get the idea to use a Vampire’s blood as a healing mechanism and drug rather than a way to be changed into a vampire?
*It seemed logical to me. If it’s so potent, why can’t it be used for other purposes?
We know that the Sookie Stackhouse series will soon come to an end. Are you planning to do a spin off from the series? *We all love Sookie and will miss her terribly!*
*I’ll miss her, too. But I don’t want to keep writing the books after I’ve run out of things to say. I don’t think I’ll write a spinoff, though we may see characters we know from time to time in my other work
Before the series ends will Sookie finally settle down with her true mate?
*Like everyone else, you’ll have to wait and see.

I read somewhere that you have to approve the new episodes of True Blood before they air, is there any truth to this?
*That’s completely untrue.
If you could be any supernatural creature, what would you choose to be and why?
*I wouldn’t be. I’d stay human.

Charlaine Harris watches True Blood every week and enjoys the differences between the show and the books. She believes that since the show varies from the books, readers can be suprised by the show and viewers will enjoy the variations found in the books.
